Do children need Laughter Yoga when research says that children already laugh more than 400 times a day?
It is true that children naturally love to laugh (that said so do most adults) but with the increasing pressures placed on children and a focus on academic achievement sometimes the laughter can be hard to find. There are increasing numbers of children experiencing and suffering with stress and other mental and emotional health issues throughout their school life. Laughter Yoga gives children permission to laugh for no reason but not without purpose. There is an increasing body of evidence to suggest that Laughter Yoga can help academic performance and improve behaviour and attendance within school. But the benefits of Laughter Yoga to children and young people aren’t just about academic achievement or indeed only school based they can help in a range of settings and ways.
At Totally Laughter Yoga we like to use the term Laughtercise to help encapsulate what Laughter Yoga is really all about.
Laughter Yoga is an exercise system that incorporates laughter, yogic breathing and gentle movements and stretches that can help children and young people develop and maintain healthy lifestyles and attitudes. Just like other exercises or games, Laughtercise can be used to energise a group or promote physical activity.

Totally Laughter Yoga is able to provide a range of introductory and on-going programmes of Laughter Yoga sessions in schools, Youth Clubs or other community setting but we’ve recognised that we can’t always be there so we’ve created a DVD of guided Laughter Yoga or Laughtercises that can be done with the group at any time. Just imagine the wonderful sound of a whole class, year group or school sharing a number of hearty laughs during the day. Stress and tension will just melt away. Not only will the children and young people benefit but the adults will also enjoy the health benefits as well!
